SUMMARY

As a key member of the technical and operations staff, the Director of Mechanical Engineering will be responsible for all existing and new product design requirements and improvements. This includes specification reviews, development program timelines and reports, design reviews, simple mechanical designs, documentation packages, preproduction builds and transfers to production. This position will require 5-10 years of experience in a CNC Machining environment along with demonstrated and proven experiences with Solid Works/CAD and Lean Manufacturing. A background in the oil and gas equipment sector will be very helpful, but not required.

Multi Products, a certified ISO 9001:2000 manufacturer, has been in business for 45 years manufacturing gas and oilfield production equipment. Multi plans to grow by improving its existing products and developing industry-leading new products. The long term prospects for natural gas are very favorable and the population of wells requiring Multi’s products will be increasing steadily. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Full responsibility, working with Operations, to improve the current product line which involves:

  • Time and Cost efficiency improvements. Assist in the identification and implementation of solutions to reduce manufacturing costs and raw material consumption.
  • Work with external vendors and customers to help develop future product line. Collaborate with Operations, Sales, external vendors/partners, and customers to identify innovative products.
  • Provide all CAD/Solid Works support as needed.

2. Provide technical support to Sales and Marketing for bids and proposals.

3. Conducts various comparison tests of competitive products and components in accordance with test criteria established by policies and procedures and/or written test plans; maintains accurate records of test results and reports results to the Operations Team. Improve internal testing capability.

4. Prepare prototypes of components and assemblies of either new or current product as directed by policies and procedures and/or written test plans or work requests.

5. Assist in meeting all ISO requirements/documentation for operational processes.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has an intern reporting to it now and future growth may require additional hiring in this department.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum of five years of experience in mechanical design with specific experiences in CNC Machining environments and cost reduction analysis. Must have exposure to Mechanical engineering design principles and methodologies. Proven experiences with Lean Manufacturing principles a plus. Petroleum engineering education or practical job experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE AND MATH SKILLS

This position will require strong language and math skills. Roles will include reading and interpreting technical data and summarizing for our management team and technical presentations internally and to outside groups.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
